Yet more pics of DIY on our house... This time it's some basic redecoration of our main living room, including the blocking up of an old window.
Our main living space in our house is a large downstairs room, which originally was two rooms, but at some point was knocked into one room.
At the back of this large room a small utility room extension was built, this resulted in an window being left at the back of the room, which would originally have been an external window. We wanted to remove this window as it served no purpose and we wanted to cover this back wall with shelving units.
Once we removed the window glass itself, we then ripped out the frame and began building the wooden framwork needed to put up the plasterboard.
Once we had plasterboarded the window area we then went to work on the rest of the room. We were only working on the back part of the room, while living in the front part. Once the back part is completed then we'll swap and begin work on the front.
One of the main reasons for the all this work was to enable us to add a lot more storage space to the room, this would be in the form of shelving units from Ikea. We had already chosen and purchased the units, but we still needed to wax all the bare woodwork. This waxing process took us a lot longer than expected. Below are some of the shelving unit pieces (not shown is the 6-7 boxes with cabinet units in!).
As is always the case with any work on this old house, we have to patch up (or redo completely!) some of the plaster work, in this case we needed to replaster some of the chimney breast, along with several other areas.
Once we got the old plaster hacked off, we got the new plaster in place, and then there wasn't much left but the decorating!
And here's the final room... Decorated, and with the new shelving mostly in place. (Well, final half room.. Still got the other half to do yet!)
