Having been a big fan of Battlefield 1942, it was inevitable that I'd be buying Battlefield 2 as soon as it came out. Not only have I been playing the game a lot in the past month or two, but I've also been involved in setting up a clan website, and joining a 'mod team' to work on Battlefield 2: Pirates.

Not long after the release of the Battlefield 2 demo, one of the former BF1942 DVDR clan members contacted me about starting up a new clan for Battlefield 2, naturally I jumped at the chance to sign up with my fellow DVDR clan mates!

I agreed to help work on the clans website, and started by looking into methods of getting the Battlefield statistics displayed on our clan site. This lead me to helping out with the Battlefield 2 Technical Wiki, and many of my contributions can be seen in the Statistics Gathering section. I eventually completed developed on our clan website, the European Alliance. And as you can see the site features some fairly comprehensive statistics for the clan.

One of the other features of the Battlefield series (and many other FPS), is the ability for people to modify the game, and create new games using the games engine. This is known as 'modding', and due to my involvement in the stats information on the technical wiki I was contacted by one of the leaders of the Battlefield 2: Pirates mod team.

The pirates mod is basically a 'full conversion' of the game, all the graphics, sound, and gameplay are changed to create a completely new game. My role within the team is mainly on the coding side, looking at creating our own stats for the game, and changing the gameplay modes, along with other bits and pieces. Initially I'm working on changing the in-game HUD graphics, and so far I've made some fairly good progress.

In the coming months I hope to post up some screenshots and so forth of the work I've been doing. So stay tuned.
